Steve
Rhodes, former England wicketkeeper, is likely to be the next head coach of the
Bangladesh cricket team. According to the BCB chief executive, Nizamuddin
Chowdhury, Rhodes is expected to arrive in Bangladesh this week for an
interview for the head coach’s position. If he can convince the board members
with his presentation, he will end up taking the post that has been left empty for
the past eight months after the resignation of Chandika Hathurusingha in
October 2017. In his presentation, he will brief the plan for the Tigers for
the 2019 World Cup and 2020 World T20.
Steve
Rhodes, the ex- Yorkshire coach, has made it to the shortlist of head coach, after
being recommended by Gary Kirsten, who was appointed to help Bangladesh find
the successor of Chandika Hathurusingha.
The
53-year-old Rhodes played 11 Tests and nine ODIs for England. However, he has
23 years experience of playing First-class, List A and T20 cricket formats for Yorkshire
and Worcestershire. After retirement, he took up the coaching role for Worcestershire
and became popular as coach. Being pleased with his work, the ECB made him one
of the coaching staff for England’s tour to Bangladesh in 2016.
If
everything goes well, the new head coach will join the Bangladesh cricket team before
the start of the West Indies tour.
