England
cricket team has made a new record in the history of men’s one-day
international cricket. Scoring 481 for 6 against Australia in the third ODI
match at Trent Bridge on June 19 (Tuesday), they have made the record for the highest
team total in the limited edition of the cricket game. The previous record of
444-3 was also made by them against Pakistan at the same venue in 2016. In two
years, they have broken the record twice. With this record breaking
performance, the host sealed the series 3-0 with two matches left at hand.
Riding
on Alex
Hales and Jonny
Bairstow’s
centuries and Jason Roy and skipper Eoin Morgan’s half-centuries, England put on this
mammoth total. Jonny
Bairstow scored 92-ball 139 while
Alex
Hales
made 147 runs facing equal number of balls. Opener Jason Roy could have scored
back-to-back hundreds if he was not run out on 82. However, Captain Eoin Morgan scored 67 runs off
30 balls. He reached fifty off just 21 balls and became England’s fastest half-centurion.
Not only that, he has also became England’s top run scorer in ODI format.
However, 490-4 posted by the New
Zealand women’s cricket team against Ireland in Dublin on June 8, 2018 (Friday)
is still the highest score in ODI format.
