Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has
appointed Steve Rhodes as the new head coach of the national cricket team. The 53-year-old former England wicketkeeper-batsman has been contracted for
two years till the end of the World Twenty20 in 2020.
Steve Rhodes, who played 11 Tests and
nine ODIs, came to Dhaka on Wednesday night (June 6) to appear for an interview.
In the next day, he interviewed with the BCB high officials and from his taking
over the head coach post made the point clear that he could impress the board
members with his presentation in which he drafted his plans for the Bangladesh
team for the next two years.
BCB president, Nazmul Hasan, said to
the media, “Steve’s planning and thinking regarding the team met our
expectation for which we could make an easy and quick decision.”
Rhodes has filled up the place left vacant
for eight months since Chandika Hathurusingha resigned in October 2017 after a
successful three-year stint. The former Worcestershire coach and team director
said, “It is a fantastic honour and it's a privilege to be involved in
Bangladesh cricket.”
Bangladesh bowling coach, Courtney
Walsh, the West Indies fast bowling legend, was named as an interim head coach
of the team in the 2018 Nidahas Trophy in Sri Lanka and in the recently
concluded T20 series against Afghanistan in India.
