Bangladesh
lost to Afghanistan by 45 runs in the opening T20 match at the Rajiv Gandhi
International Cricket Stadium in Dehradun on June 3. With this victory, the
host has taken a 1-0 lead of the three-match T20I series.
Bangladesh
skipper, Shakib Al Hasan, won the toss and chose to field first. Mohammad
Shahzad, Samiullah Shenwari and Shafiqullah helped Afghanistan to put on a
competitive score of 167 runs losing eight wickets. They respectively scored
40, 36 and 24 runs.
Coming
to chase, Bangladesh were bowled out for 122 runs in 19 overs. For Bangladesh, Liton
Das and Mahmudullah were highest run scorers as they scored 30 and 29
respectively.
Rashid
Khan was named the “Player of the Match” for his performance. Bowling three
overs, the leg-spinner took three wickets giving 13 runs. Shapoor Zadran also
took equal number of wickets, but he was little bit expensive. The remaining
four wickets were taken by Mohammad Nabi, who claimed two wickets, and Mujeeb Ur
Rahman and Karim Janat, who picked up one apiece.
Hosting
this match, Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Dehradun made its
international debut. Around 15,000 audience came to the stadium, to enjoy the
first international cricket match held in this ground.
The
second T20 match is scheduled to be held on June 5 at the same venue.
