Shakib Al Hasan reaches T20 double of 4000 runs and 300 wickets

Bangladeshi all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has achieved another feat. The 31-year-old player has reached the double of 4000 runs and 300 wickets in the Twenty20 format and become the second player in this elite list, the first player to achieve this milestone was Dwayne Bravo.

Taking the wicket of Rohit Sharma in the match against Mumbai Indians in the 2018 Indian Premier League on April 24 (Tuesday), Shakib Al Hasan completed his 300 wickets in the shortest format of the game. He now has 4,069 runs and 300 wickets. It needed him 260 T20 matches to reach the mark. 

The 34-year-old West Indian all-rounder, who has been playing for the Chennai Super Kings, has the double of 5,621 runs and 419 wickets. He has accomplished this record playing 381 T20s.

Shakib is one of the five players to have claimed 300 T20 wickets, and the first left-arm bowler to achieve the feat. Apart from Brave and Shakib, other three players who have reached the bowling milestone are Sri Lankan fast bowler Lasith Malinga (348), West Indies spinner Sunil Narine (325) and Pakistan legend Shahid Afridi (300),

Neither Brave nor Shakib will make it to the top 20 list when it comes to most runs, which is led by Chris Gayle of the West Indies with 11,297 runs, including 21 centuries and 69 half-centuries, at an average of 41.38.

Sri Lankan newspaper claims that Shakib Al Hasan caused the damage of the dressing room door

Finally, it has been found who broke the glass door of Bangladesh’s dressing room. According to an eye-witness, who was one of the caterers, Bangladesh T20 skipper Shakib Al Hasan was responsible for this damage. He informed the match referee Chris Broad that Bangladesh premier all-rounder pushed the door forcefully which eventually caused the damage.

The CCTV footage was not clear enough to identify the person responsible for this destruction. For this reason, match referee had to rely on working staff as an eye-witness. It is yet to know if further steps will be taken against Shakib. However, he has already been fined 25 percent of his match fees and handed one demerit point for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct. 

The encounter between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in the last group-stage match of the recently-concluded Nidahas Trophy gave birth to a number of bitter incidents. The incidents that took place in the penultimate over of the innings marred Bangladesh’s thrilling victory against the host nation.

The first two balls in the 19^th over of Bangladesh’s innings were bouncers. So, Bangladeshi players expected that the second one should be given a no-ball, but the umpires did not signal it. As a result, Bangladeshi substitute players engaged in a verbal clash with Sri Lanka’s Kusal Mendis. Seeing this confrontation, Shakib, came down from the dressing room and standing at the edge of the boundary, told his players to come off the field to show protest against the on-field umpires’ decision.

Finger injury makes Shakib unsure for Sri Lanka Test

Bangladeshi all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has sustained injury during the final match against Sri Lanka of the Rocket Tri-Nation ODI series. As a result, he will not be able to play the first Test match against Sri Lanka in the bilateral series starting from January 31, 2018. If he requires more time to get recovery, he might possibly miss the chance of playing the rest of the matches in the series which will end on February 18, when the host will take on Sri Lanka in the second T20I in Sylhet. In his absence, Mahmudullah will lead the national cricket team in Test cricket. 

Shakib Al Hasan injured his little finger on his left hand while trying to run out Dinesh Chandimal in the 42^nd over of the Sri Lanka innings. As he moved rapidly downward through the air, he fell awkwardly on his left hand, resulting joint sprain at the base of the little finger on his left hand. However, from the field, he was directly taken to hospital where he had an X-ray. According to Debashis Chowdhury, senior physician of the BCB, nothing serious was found in the X-ray report, but the injury required some stitches. He will not be able to move his affected finger for at least a week before further assessment is made.

Hearing the news of Shakib's injury, Bangladesh’s selectors have drafted the left-arm spinner Sunzamul Islam and the legspinner Tanbir Hayder into the squad for the first Test against Sri Lanka. They will join Bangladesh Under-19 off-spinner Naeem Hasan as the three uncapped cricketers in the squad.
