Shakib Al Hasan, Tamim Iqbal and Rashid Khan will play for World XI against West Indies

Bangladesh star cricketers Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal and Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan have been picked up for the ICC World XI squad that will play against the West Indies cricket team in a charity T20 game at Lord’s on May 31. The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Monday confirmed their participation. They will join three other Asian cricketers- Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Malik, and Sri Lanka’s Thisara Perera- who have already confirmed their participation for the game.

The ICC World XI team will be lead by the England ODI and T20 captain, Eoin Morgan while the West Indies team will be led by Carlos Brathwaite. A 13-man West Indies squad includes big names like Chris Gayle, Andre Russell and Marlon Samuels. With this match, Andre Russell will make his return to the international cricket following a year-long ban for a doping-code violation. However, more star players are likely to be included in the ICC World XI squad in the coming days.
The reason behind organizing this match is to raise funds with a view to reconstructing stadiums that were damaged in the Caribbean last year by Hurricanes Irma and Maria.
Bangladesh opening batsman Tamim Iqbal, who played only one Test at Lord’s in 2010 and scored 55 and 103 runs respectively in two innings, said: “I am delighted to have been chosen to once again represent the ICC World XI for a cause which will only make cricket a bigger and better sport. The West Indies' contribution to the global game is unmatched and unparalleled, and if the cricket fraternity can get together to play a small role in the rebuilding of their damaged venues following last year's hurricanes, then this is a very small price with hugely positive results.”
West Indies squad: Carlos Brathwaite (capt), Denesh Ramdin (wk), Chris Gayle, Samuel Badree, Rayad Emrit, Andre Fletcher, Evin Lewis, Ashley Nurse, Keemo Paul, Rovman Powell, Andre Russell, Marlon Samuels, Kesrick Williams
