Search
English, the Bangladesh-based English language learning group in Facebook, has
been short listed for an international award “Social Media for Empowerment 2018”.
It
has been nominated under community mobilization category among 180 entrees from
around the world. Gala event of this award will be organized in Delhi on May
25.
About
being nominated for this international award, Razib Ahmed, the founder of
Search English, said, “We are delighted to be short-listed for the ‘Social
Media for Empowerment 2018’ award. With this, we want to carry our activities forward
to a large extent. We want to completely get rid of any prevalent fear
associated with English language learning.”
Three
organizations from Bangladesh have been short listed for this prestigious
award.
It
is worth mentioning that Facebook has earlier published a documentary on this Bangladesh-based
English language learning group, Search English. This is the first time that
Facebook has made a documentary of this sort on a Bangladeshi group. On October
25 last year, a documentary on Search English was published on Facebook
Business page. In this documentary, various members of Search English group present
their English language skill while also sharing their personal experience of
this platform. Facebook took notice of the aspect of practicing English through
Search English.
In
August last year, a four-member delegation from Facebook’s Singapore office visited
Bangladesh and met the founder of Search English, Razib Ahmed, and other
members of the group. ‘Search English’ Facebook group began their journey in
June 2016. At present, the group has more than one million members. The group
is open for all, so anyone can join here.
