Rajib’s life has been spent
in hardship. He also died in pain. He always wanted to live in a little bit
better condition. When Rajib’s friends used to visit different places, he used
to give tuition one after another to earn money. He did not get anything but
sorrow in this life, said Rajib’s maternal uncle, wiping his eyes.
On
April 3, he was going to his destination standing on the doorway at the back of
a double decker BRTC bus. At that time, his hand was partially out. Suddenly
another bus, while attempting to overtake or cross the BRTC one, came very
close to a collision distance on the left side.
At
Karwan Bazar area, due to the negligence of the two drivers, Rajib Hossain, a
student of Titumir College, got his right hand severed by the pressure of the
two buses colliding sideways. Though he was immediately taken to Samorita
Hospital at Panthapath, doctors could not save his hand. After giving primary
treatment at Samorita Hospital, Rajib was shifted to Dhaka Medical College
Hospital (DMCH). Rajib died on Monday midnight after being treated 14 days at
the Dhaka Medical College Hospital. His village home is at Bashbari village of
Bauphal upazila under the Patuakhali district.
Rajib’s
teacher, Samad Azad, wrote about him in an online media, ‘Rajib Hossain lost
his mother while studying in class three and his father when he was in class
eight. Then, this 21-year-old orphan started the life’s war along with his two
younger brothers Mehedi (12) and Abdullah (11). Sometimes staying in aunt’s
house, sometimes giving tuition, he has done his own study and made his two
young brothers Hafiz-E-Quran. Rajib’s dream was to give BCS exam and become a
well-known teacher. He wished to educate his two young brothers, and then three
brothers would stay together. He wanted to enlighten those of his relatives
whose lives were full of darkness.
Yesterday, two younger brothers-
Mehedi and Abdullah- were waiting for Rajib’s dead body in front of the morgue
of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). Their maternal uncle, Zahidul Islam,
and aunt, Jahanara Begum, were along with them. Wiping her eyes, Jahanara Begum
said, Rajib used to dream a happy life with his two brothers Mehedi and
Abdullah. Now after his burial, his two brothers do not know where and to whom
they would stay in Dhaka and how they would manage their educational expenses.
Life is now shrouded in uncertainty for them.
Jahanara also said, if
government takes responsibility of these two kids, their lives would not be
ruined. She also demanded justice and punishment for the two bus drivers, who
are Rajib’s murderers. Rajib’s two younger brothers are the students of class
seven and six of Tamirul Millat Kamil Madrasah at Jatrabari.
Rajib’s maternal uncle, Zahidul Islam, informed that
Rajib, who obtained GPA-5 both in SSC and HSC, carried on his study at the Titumir
College all on his own. To manage his two younger brothers’ education expenses as
well as his own, Rajib had to give tuition, do graphics design and typing and
other works. Earning money from childhood, he has made his two younger brothers
Hafiz-E-Quran. Now, with the hope of their beautiful future, he has been educating them
in Bengali medium. Rajib used to see such dream- they would have a happy family
after the end of their education, his job and subsequently the employment of
his two brothers.
Khadiza Begum Lipi, another
aunt of Rajib, said that Rajib’s Namaz-E-Janaza (funeral prayer) was held at the
premises of the High Court Mazar Mouse at noon. Then family members left for
village taking the dead body. There Rajib was buried next to his parents’ grave.
