The joy of Pahela Baishakh cannot be
matched with any communal or non-communal festival. The first day of Bengali
New Year is very important to Bengali speaking people because it marks the
beginning of the New Year. It is celebrated by different ages and professions
of people in a different way and also the happiness of celebrating Pahela
Baishakh varies from person to person. One may find pleasure in a clay pot
filled with traditional foods, including soaked rice, fried Hilsa fish and
various types of smash; even one may find pleasure in participating concert or
visiting fairs and programs.
It is such a festival that can be
celebrated by all people regardless of religion. That is why, it is known as
universal and non-communal. It has been celebrating for a long period and it
will continue to be celebrated by Bengali speaking people across the world. It
bears the identity of Bengali nation.
