Bangladesh
women’s cricket team has been performing consistently. The tigresses are adding
as many titles as they can to their national team’s name. They have won the
2018 ICC Women’s World Twenty20 Qualifier title beating Ireland by 25 runs in
the final on Saturday (July 14). It was their third major title in the last
month.
Ireland
won the toss and invited Bangladesh to bat first. Playing their stipulated 20
overs, Bangladesh women scored 122 runs losing 9 wickets. Ayesha Shukhtara
Rahman played her career best innings of 46 runs, which made her the top scorer
of Bangladesh team.
Coming to chase Bangladesh’s 123-run target, Ireland
women were bowled out for just 97 runs. Panna Ghosh, taking five wickets for 16
runs, became the second Bangladeshi cricketer to claim a five-wicket haul after
Jahanara Alam. However, her 5 for 16 is so far the best bowling figure by a
Bangladeshi in women cricket history, surpassing Jahanara Alam’s 5 for 28. Jahanara
also achieved that feat against Ireland last month. Rumana Ahmed and Nahida
took two wickets each.
Bangladesh
made their way to the final beating Papua New Guinea, Netherlands, United Arab
Emirates and Scotland.
Earlier,
they won the Asia Cup beating India in the final at Malaysia last month. Then, they
won against hosts Ireland 2-1 before the Qualifiers this month. Hope they will
continue this momentum in the future.
