Cricket Australia banned Steve Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft for ball-tampering

Three Australian cricketers- Steve Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft, have received punishment from Cricket Australia (CA) for their involvement in ball-tampering. Captain Smith and Vice-captain Warner have been banned for one year while Bancroft has been handed a nine-month ban.
As per the punishment provided by CA, both Smith and Bancroft have been suspended from captaining Australia for at least the next two years. On the other hand, the 31-year-old Warner will never again be considered for any team leadership role in future. As part of the punishment, they will also have to do 100 hours of voluntary service in community cricket and can appeal against the suspension.
Whether it is international or Australian domestic cricket, the trio- Smith, Warner, Bancroft- cannot take part in any format of the cricket game during the time of their banishment. However, they can still play in any club cricket outside of Australia, but recently on Wednesday Smith and Warner were also banned from this season’s Indian Premier League. Before that, both the players resigned as captain of their respective franchises- Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals.
The incident of ball-tampering took place during the third Test against South Africa at Cape Town. Cameron Bancroft has been punished because he carried out the plan. He was seen using yellow-colored tape, which was later identified as sandpaper, to change the condition of the ball. However, he has carried out this plan as per the instruction of Warner, who was responsible for making a plan to artificially damage the ball. Smith was aware of the fact and did not take any step; instead he kept it from happening. Even following his director, Bancroft hid the evidence in his trouser.
However, Cricket Australia did not find any involvement of the head coach, Darren Lehmann. That is why, he has been kept in his position.
