Bangladesh women’s cricket team wins Asia Cup trophy

Bangladesh women’s cricket team has done what Bangladesh men’s cricket team could not. They have won a major trophy for their country. With their achievement in international arena, they have brought happiness for the whole nation. Their victory came at a time when Bangladeshi cricket lovers were being heartbroken seeing the disappointing performance of their men’s senior cricket team.
Registering a nail-biting last-ball win over India in the final match of the Women’s Asia Cup T20I 2018 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Sunday (June 10), they have emerged triumphant. Needing two runs to win in the last ball of the final over, Jahanara Alam kept her nerve cool to take the winning runs. Beating India by three wickets, they have become only the second nation to clinch the Asia Cup title.
Earlier, Bangladesh won the toss and decided to field first. Batting first, India could manage to score 112 runs losing nine wickets with Harmanpreet Kaur top-scoring for her side with 56 runs.
For Bangladesh, both Khadija-tul Kubra and Rumana Ahmed took two wickets apiece while Jahanara Alam and Salma Khatun claimed a wicket each.
In reply to India’s 113-run chase, Bangladesh reached the target in their stipulated 20 overs. Nigar Sultana and Rumana Ahmed scored 27 and 22 runs respectively.
India’s Poonam Yadav caused huge trouble by taking four wickets. She was supported by Harmanpreet Kaur who notched two wickets with the ball.
The women in red and green started their campaign with a defeat against Sri Lanka, but won the remaining four matches in the round robin league. They along with India reached the final with eight points each from five matches, but India finished first based on superior net run rate.
The Women's Asia Cup T20I 2018 consisted of Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Malaysia.
