The importance of having an aim in life

We cannot deny the importance of having a specific goal in our life. A person without an aim in life is like a boat without a helm. A boat without a rudder floats aimlessly in the water and cannot reach the shore. Likewise, a man without having a particular aim spends his time and money trying one task after another, and as a result, he cannot prosper in life. He acts like a puppet of his surroundings. For this reason, it has become necessary for every man to fix the aim of his life. However, it is not an easy task because a person has to consider many things before deciding what he wants to be in the future and where he wants to see himself after a certain period. The biggest challenge is to stick to the decision he has made even though he may face many difficulties.

It is better to set a target for your life at a very young age. According to your decision, you will have to make a career plan and work hard day and night so that you can fulfill your dream. However, getting success is not that easy. For that, you will have to sacrifice many things. Moreover, you will have to be patient because you may fail again and again. You will stumble many times and wake up in chasing your dream, but if you have strong determination, you must succeed.

It is also important to have only one goal in life. If there is more than one goal, you will not reach any of them. Just like aimless life, having too many aims will take you nowhere. So, set the goal of your life carefully and start working hard to achieve it.

Differences and similarities between content writing and creative writing

By writing, many of us may understand stories, plays or any kind of creative literary work, but it is only a part of writing. Though there are many types of writing, it can be broadly divided into two categories- creative writing and content writing. Content writing is also known as web writing. However, in this article, I will show the major differences and similarities between these two types of writing.

Any kind of writing based on literature falls under the category of creative writing. It can be a story, a novel or any kind of short story regarding your thoughts and ideas on certain subjects. A creative writer has no boundaries neither he is bounded by any rules because they are born with the unique ability to keep the readers absorbed in their writings.  Personal feelings of the writer or another created from the writer’s imagination are the main focus in creative writing. That personal feeling of the writer deeply revolves around the writer’s emotions and the imaginary world contains clarity, emotion, the portrayal of the ugly reality or the reflections of our own lives.

On the other hand, content writing is creating content for any special purpose. It will be wrong if we label it as open discussion. Some people call it technical writing. Content writing is basically the writing that is done to learn more about a product or a subject. Some people call it web writing.

Content writers in most cases work with a marketing representative of a company. The most important thing in a content writer's job is to highlight the features of the product so that the content writer's writing attracts a buyer to buy that product even though there is another product on the market. This is the biggest challenge for a content writer.

Another important aspect of content writing is keywords. Now, the question may come to your mind “What is a keyword?”. In this case, an example can be given. Suppose, I am a marketer and I will market the body lotion of a new company. The specialty of this body lotion is ‘sunburn protection’. This ‘sunburn protection’ is the keyword of this body lotion. In many cases, content writers have to create their own keywords.

For example, if I want to make ‘body lotion’ a keyword, I can write that this body lotion contains vitamin A, C and E, which protects the body from sunburn. In this way, I will be able to catch the attention of my probable customers.

Again, when writing any content related to education, my keywords will be study, education, career so that if you search these on Google, my article can come to the top position. The scope of content writing is very limited because the product description is given here. So, buyers will never be attracted to read your extended text. Rather you have to achieve your goal by writing fewer words.

Now, let us talk about the similarities between content writing and creative writing. Both taglines contain the word “writing.” So, it is not like that anyone can write content on anything they want because when writing content, you will have to use some keywords or special words so that the buyer of your product or service feels interested in your content. It is only possible for a creative and skilled writer to create it.

Both content writers and creative writers have to do a lot of research and study. A content writer has to write the content of a product by understanding the mindset of the client. On the other hand, a creative writer also creates literature by understanding the mindset of the readers.

Many of us mix up copywriting and content writing. Yes, there are definitely some similarities between the two, but not that much. Nevertheless, we are giving you details about the matter.

Copywriting is writing for marketing and product promotion. On the other hand, content writing is informational writing, the editorial page of the website, blog post or article page etc. Some articles contain only information. They do not contain any kind of marketing punchline or product promotion. This type of writing is called content writing. And the writing that is written for marketing, that is, to persuade for a specific product is known as copywriting.

In conclusion, content writing requires a lot of technical knowledge, and you will have to write the content of the product or topic by following a certain structure using the right keywords. On the other hand, in creative writing, the writer will have a combination of infinite imagination and real knowledge, which will become the story of all of us.

The characteristics of Jane Eyre

Jane Eyre is the best novel of Charlotte Bronte. It was published in 1847 in Victorian-era England. To appreciate this novel, one should have some knowledge about the Victorian age. Jane Eyre is the central character of this novel and it was named after her. Instead of discussing how Jane Eyre represents the Victorian era women, it would be better to say that compared to contemporary Victorian women, she was exceptional. Hence, Charlotte Bronte deserves all the praise.

Jane Eyre was an average English woman. She was not very beautiful and did not come from a very prestigious family. She was an orphan and studied in a charity school named Lowood Institution. She suffered a lot at school. Before attending the school, she used to live with her maternal uncle, but her aunt, Mrs. Reed, did not like her at all. She suffered a lot during her childhood and she lived in great hardship throughout this novel.

One thing we notice that there was not much happiness in Jane’s life. In fact, women like Jane Eyre were not very happy and orphan women suffered a lot. Since Jane Eyre was an orphan, she underwent a lot of suffering.

One of the striking features of Jane Eyre’s character was that she faced all her problems of life and fought with adversity. Her mental strength and independent nature made her a unique woman. Such a woman was very rare in Victorian society. Even there are very few women like Jane Eyre in modern society. Such characteristic features made Jane Eyre stand-out from the rest of the crowd.

Jane Eyre fought with all her adversities. Sometimes she lost, but she did not lose hope. She continued to fight. This makes Jane Eyre very special to the readers. They can easily understand that she is not like any ordinary girl. She shows great mental strength and courage in every walk of her life. The more she suffers, the stronger she becomes.

Such characteristics do not go very well with Victorian-era women. Women in the Victorian age were not independent. Not too many girls received education and jobs for women were very limited. Today, British women enjoy a lot of facilities in terms of education and career choices. The same goes for women of America and Europe. Looking at these, it is very hard for one to imagine that only 150 years ago, ordinary English women suffered so much.

Another great thing about Jane Eyre was that her thoughts and ideas were modern. Despite her sufferings, she wanted to move forward and build a better life for herself. Such thoughts and ideas made her a very attractive woman to the readers.

She is also a dedicated lover. She liked Rochester at first sight and loved him all her life. Her marriage with Rochester broke because Rochester was already married to another mentally challenged woman. Yet, she loved Rochester and remained loyal to her. When St. John Rivers wanted to marry her, she did not agree. She still loved Rochester. When she came to know that Rochester’s wife committed suicide and he lost his eyesight trying to save her, she returned to him. Because of her caring, Rochester gets back his eyesight. All these show her dedication and love for her husband.

In conclusion, we can say that Jane Eyre was a good woman, but she did not fit the definition of a good woman of the Victorian age. Jane Eyre was a good woman, but she had a strong sense of morality. She was also a very independent-minded woman. She wants to lead her life in her way. She loved Rochester and married him and moved ahead with her own strong personality. The privilege and facilities that English women enjoy today had been possible for women like Jane Eyre.

Victory Day of Bangladesh

December 16 is an unforgettable day in the history of Bangladesh. On this day in 1971, Bangladesh got freedom from the oppression of the Pakistani army and their local collaborators- Razakar, Al-Badr, Al-Shams- after a nine-month-long freedom war. For this reason, this day is celebrated across the country as Victory Day. On this day, people from all walks of life commemorate the freedom fighters, martyrs, and other people related to the liberation war with due respect. The activities of showing homage to the liberation martyrs start with the rise of the sun by placing wreaths at the National Memorial at Savar. Both government and non-government organizations celebrate this day organizing various cultural programs.

However, this victory did not come overnight. To achieve this victory, we had to pay a price of three million lives and honor of nearly half a million women. Our forefathers snatched the victory putting their lives at risk. Now, we have to defend it at any cost. We should keep one thing in mind that freedom is harder to defend than to achieve.

Religion in Jane Eyre

Religion is one of the main themes of Charlotte Bronte’s famous novel Jane Eyre. Throughout the novel, we can see the presence of religion. The first major theme of this novel is love. The novel also represents the condition of women in Victorian England. At the same time, the influence of science was increasing and the influence of religion was decreasing. In England, there were two major branches of Christianity, Catholic and Protestant, and these are still present today. Catholics were minorities. In this novel, Jane Eyre showed that she was not a strong supporter of Catholicism. There is some level of strictness in Catholic Christianity. For example, Catholic priests cannot marry. On the contrary, Protestant Christianity was not so strict. They could marry. In this novel, Jane Eyre indirectly showed her support for Protestant Christianity.

But this does not mean that Charlotte Bronte strongly supported Protestant Christianity. All she tried to say is that there must be a balance between religion and human life. In this regard, we can take a look at the two male central characters of the novel- Edward Fairfax Rochester and St. John Eyre Rivers. St. John Eyre Rivers was a good person. He was very much devoted to religion. Due to his strong devotion, he wanted to become a missionary and went to India to spread Christianity. He did not love Jane Eyre very much. However, he wanted to marry Jane Eyre for his own interest. We can see that his self-interest was very important to him. He understood that Jane Eyre was a good woman, and if he got married to her and took her to India, his life would be very comfortable.

On the other hand, from a religious standpoint, it cannot be said that Edward Rochester was a good person because he was already married and his wife was mentally challenged. He was leading a very unhappy married life. Yet, he fell in love with Jane and wanted to marry her. He did not tell her about his wife. On the day of their wedding, this painful secret came out in front of everyone and their wedding stopped. Jane Eyre received a major shock and stealthily left Rochester’s house. But after this incident, Rochester became a changed person. At one point, he lost his eyesight. He felt bad about himself and tried to become a good person. In this way, he redeemed himself. Despite being a bad person, Rochester earns readers’ love and respect. Rivers may be a good person from a religious point of view, but readers do not find him attractive.

Jane Eyre herself was a religious person. She could have continued her relationship with Rochester even after knowing about his first wife, but it would be an immoral relationship on religious ground. So, she did not do that. She herself was a religious and moral person. Instead of marrying Rochester, she leaves him. When she came to know about Rochester’s accident and the death of his wife, she returned to him and married him. Like a good wife, she fulfills all her duties towards her husband. The moral sense that we see in Jane Eyre is very much similar to that of Christianity.

It cannot be said that Charlotte Bronte wholeheartedly supported Christianity. She showed that many clergymen were not good. Mr. Brocklehurst, the self-righteous clergyman who runs Lowood School for Girls, was a major example of such a person. He often quotes from the Bible, but in real life, he does not care about religion but his self-interest. He humiliated little Jane for no reason. He did not provide any facilities to the children of the school and always deprived them. Showing benevolence is one of the most important teachings of the Bible and Jesus Christ, but Mr. Brocklehurst does not observe those teachings in real life. Through this character, Charlotte Bronte tried to show the hypocrisy of Christianity and clergymen.

In her novel, Charlotte Bronte did not deny the importance of religion. She showed both the good and bad sides of religion in this novel. Jane Eyre was a pious woman, but she was not a staunch follower of religion. We see a beautiful combination of humanity and religion in her character. The author mainly tried to show that if we follow religion extremely then it does not bring any good to society. Instead of following religion blindly, we should approach humanity through religion. Then our society will be highly benefitted. According to her, Brocklehurst is not a good person to Charlotte Bronte although he quotes from the Bible frequently. St. John Eyre Rivers is a good and moral person, but he has no emotion or love. He wanted to marry Jane not out of his love for her but his self-interest. Rochester in the beginning did not tell Jane about his marriage, but he is the only person who truly loved Jane. In the end, we see that he becomes a good person which is why Jane married him and found happiness in her life.

Gothic elements in Jane Eyre

Jane Eyre is one of the most popular novels of Charlotte Bronte. One of the interesting features of this novel is that it contains Gothic elements. Gothic is a literary genre. Gothic works contain horror and romance. Horace Walpole is considered to be the first major writer of the Gothic genre. His novel The Castle of Otranto is a famous Gothic novel. Some of the major elements of Gothic novel are-

·         A ruined or intact castle. It might be haunted or not.

·         Shadows, a beam of moonlight in the blackness, a flickering candle.

·         Magic, supernatural manifestations.

·         Terrifying events or the threat of such happenings.

At the beginning of the novel, we can see that little Jane was locked in the “Red-Room” which was “dark like blood”. Jane’s uncle Mr. Reed died in that room. She saw a ghost of her uncle and became afraid. The room was portrayed as a vault. The chair became a “pale throne” and the bed was mentioned as a “tabernacle”. The surrounding of the room was also terrifying. Outside it was raining, the wind blew against the moors and Jane would hear a faint voice. All these are Gothic elements.

We also see Gothic elements when Jane and Rochester first met. The two people met at night. It was a moonlit night and a hilly area. Mr. Rochester’s horse slipped on ice and he fell down. Later, Mr. Rochester teased her saying that if she had bewitched her horse to fall down.

The most prominent Gothic element in Jane Eyre is Thornfield Hall. Edward Rochester was the owner of the house. It was filled with mystery. While describing “Thornfield Hall”, Jane compares it to “Bluebeard’s Castle”. Bluebeard’s Castle is a French fairy tale of a Duke who murdered all his wives and locked their bodies in closets. Jane heard sounds of a strange laugh in the manor. There was a mysterious fire in Mr. Rochester’s room, on which Jane throws water. Even, Rochester’s house guest, Mr. Mason, was attacked.

We also see the Gothic element when Rochester’s bed clothes were lit on fire. Rochester’s first wife put his bed clothes on fire. It induces more fear in the hearts of the readers about the secret creature that lives upstairs. Jane threw water into the fire and put it off. This incident reveals that there is a dark secret, something ominous.

The hitting of the chestnut tree, under which Jane and Rochester had just sat when he proposed the previous night, is predicting of forthcoming separation, disaster and danger for Jane and Rochester. It is also a perfect Gothic symbol.

The night before Jane’s wedding, Jane dreamt of babies and then woke up from sleep. Half-sleep half-awake, Jane observes a figure opening her closet and tearing down the wedding dress. It was a “Half-dream half-reality”. This is another Gothic element. It shows a ghostly figure.

Even after running away from Thornfield Hall, Jane had dreams about Rochester. When St. John Rivers asked her to marry him, she had a vision of Rochester calling her to return to him. She did not accept Rivers’ offer but returned to Rochester.

The last and most important feature of any gothic work is that the two-lovers unite. The same happens to Jane Eyre. Jane finally meets with her soulmate and lives a happy life. Because of her love and dedication, Rochester regains his eye-sight.

The theme of money, class and status in Jane Eyre

Jane Eyre is the best novel by Charlotte Bronte. Though the main theme of this novel is the struggle of a female character named Jane Eyre, money, class and status are also very important themes of this novel. To tell the truth, Jane Eyre belongs to a good family with a good background, but she is an orphan. She suffers in every step of her life and as she does not have money, she has no class and cannot enjoy high status. What we can understand from Jane’s struggle in the novel is that the writer tries to portray the hardship of common men of the Victorian age. Those who were rich at that time used to enjoy many advantages and often oppressed the poor and helpless. Throughout the novel, we can see that money provides power to the rich. Those who do not have money have no power. Despite coming from a good family, Jane suffers a lot in every step because she is an orphan and does not possess money. On the other hand, those who have money insult Jane as they wish and she endures it all. At that time, the condition of Victorian society was like this, which is completely different from the society we see today in England.

Class was definitely a very important issue and those who belonged to the upper class of the society had many advantages. All the people in the society were in favor of them, and even the government took their side. In contrast, the poor and orphans had no facility in society. However, we can see a very different England today with poor and lower class people enjoying many advantages. The government provides various kinds of assistance to the orphans today. Back then in the Victorian age, orphans like Jane Eyre neither had class nor status. In fact, looking at the status of those days, we can see that the condition of the poor was inhuman. It looks as if the poor were not even human beings at all. Only the rich fell into the category of human beings.

In the Victorian age, those who were clergy used to enjoy a good status, but even their power was declining gradually. We can see this in a religious priest in the novel who is at the helm of Jane Eyre’s school. He always tried to show off his power, but he was losing it gradually. With this character, Charlotte Bronte tried to portray why the power of the clergy or priest should be taken away. There was a kind of democratic spirit on the rise in contemporary England and people envisaged a country with rights preserved for all the people. There was a movement going on in England at that time, and one of the targets of the movement was the priest or clergy. People in the society wanted clergies or priests being stripped off their power and they wanted to make the society a ‘modern society.’

Charlotte Bronte is an extraordinary writer. Through Jane Eyre, she actually envisioned an England and a society where the poor and orphans would have no lack of honor and they would be able to keep their prestige and honor intact. So, in this novel, we can see that even though Jane Eyre is a poor and orphan girl, she is well aware of her status, honor and self-respect. Though she does not get much honor from society, she is seen struggling for her honor and status. Looking at the people around Rochester, we can understand that they do not respect Jane. They think that Jane is poor and there is no need to respect a poor. However, she does not give up and tries her best to stand with her head held high. So, when she comes to know about Rochester’s wife, who is insane, she does not want to become a concubine or mistress of Rochester and escapes from there. Here, we can see her strong self-respect. Many helpless and poor girls at the time were forced to become mistress or concubine of the rich like Rochester to lead a decent life, but Jane Eyre does not want to submit herself to a life like that. She dreams to do something good and big, and make her own identity in society. Through the characterization of Jane Eyre, the writer draws a picture of a future England that was not made possible in her lifetime, but it did come into reality, at least to a large extent, in England hundred years later. Looking at today’s England, we can realize that girls like Jane Eyre do not need to suffer that much.

Many people consider Charlotte Bronte’s novel Jane Eyre a romantic novel, and some others see it as a gothic novel. However, the main subject matter of this novel is social oppression. The writer portrays social injustice and oppression in every step and she wants to say that people cannot live happily in a society in the presence of such oppression. The biggest example of it is Rochester who has everything but is not happy in life. He becomes happy only when he finds out the value of Jane Eyre and realizes that he should love her and respect her because Jane, who may be poor and orphan, but is a good girl. For this reason, Rochester tries to change himself and finally changes himself. So, he is happy, even though he is blind. We can see that Rochester is the happiest and the most fortunate person in the novel.

Considering the social status and the type of class identification that existed in contemporary England, many would consider Jane Eyre fortunate because she finally gets a good husband, despite being a poor and orphan girl. On the other hand, the writer tries to show something different. She wants to say that Rochester is not happy, despite having everything in life. He may have class and money, but he is not happy. Rather, he is unlucky that he is married to a girl who does not love him and he does not get respect from those who are around him. In contrast, he gets everything- love, honor and respect- from Jane Eyre. So, from this point of view, Rochester is really lucky.
